Obama in the pub

Barack Obama is probably the only US president to have tasted the delights of a stag night in an English town. When his half-sister was due to marry  in Bracknell, Berkshire, in 1997, the young civil rights lawyer with political ambitions found himself part of a traditional stag gang lurching around the pubs of Wokingham. And all the better for his future. The British pub, with its democratic traditions, its free and open forum and its delicate give-and-take, is the perfect proving ground for any politician. Somehow, though, they missed the very good Broad Street Tavern, which would have been another string to his bow.
